Barbara Ann Burrus, 77, of Decatur passed away Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Lincoln Manor Nursing Home.
A memorial service to celebrate Barbara's life will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, August 22, 2011 at Dawson & Wikoff North Chapel, Highway 51, Decatur with visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Ramsey, IL. Cremation rites have been accorded.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Macon County Honor Guard in memory of the love that Barbara had for all those who have served in our military.
Barbara was born on June 10, 1934 in Vandalia, the daughter of John and Amber McCaslin Yarbrough. She was affiliated with First Baptist Church in Decatur. She worked at Kresges Department Store and retired from Kmart. Barbara enjoyed her luncheons with her Kmart retirees.
Barbara is survived by her children: Jay Burrus and wife Martha of Decatur, Cathy Burrus and companion David Kinney of Orlando, FL and Kim Covey and companion Rick Jourdan of Oreana; brother John Yarbrough of St. Louis, MO.; grandchildren Christina Covey, Kelsey Parrish and husband John and Shelbie Burrus; great grandchildren Kaidden Marksberry, Peyton and Piper Parrish.
Barbara was preceded in death by her father John Yarbrough and mother Amber McCaslin Staff.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the Lincoln Manor Staff and Harbor Lights Hospice for all the love and care that was given to Barbara.

To alll of Barbara's family, I would like to offer my thoughts and prayers. Although I have lost touch with many of you, I will always remember how happy Barbara always seemed to me. Like many, she overcame obstacles and managed to still offer a smile or a kind thing to say.
We shared a number of days and weeks together over the years. John and I always enjoyed our time when Barbara came to St. Louis on her way to Kansas City or just to visit us.
We appreciated how welcome she always made us feel when we came for Thanksgiving and or Christmas to Decatur.

In my line of work, I meet a lot of people, and often, they pass through my life for just a very brief time. As soon as I met Barb, I liked her very much. She met me at my office door every morning and we always had a chat...sometimes for quite awhile, other days for just a few minutes. Most days she was cheerful, but on those days she was troubled, I was glad that I could be there to help her out, and after a little trail and error, I discovered that a cup of coffee could work wonders! We would talk about many things, but what I remember most about her, and the thing we talked about the most was her family. I know she loved you all dearly, particularly the great grandkids. She always told me when someone had been there to visit the day before, and she always had a smile on her face when she talked about you, and when one of the little ones had been able to visit, she would just beam when talking about them. I want you all to know how very sorry I am for your loss, and you will be in my prayers Monday as you say goodbye. I'm glad Barb and I crossed paths in this life, because as much as I hope I was able to help her when she needed it, she was able to help me as well.
